Battery maker Simplo Technology has begun delivering lithium-based backup battery units (BBU) used in datacenters to two potential clients in the US with volume production likely to begin in the second quarter of 2019, according to company chairman Sung Fu-hsiang.
Demand for lithium-based BBUs has begun to surge recently and is expected to boom in 2019 as Internet service providers and IT giants including Google, Amazon, Microsoft and Facebook have pioneered the adoption of such products, Sung said.
Simplo has sent samples to two Internet service companies in the US for verification after having developed BBUs for years, Sung said, adding that a third potential client has just completed examination of Simplo's production facilities.
Simplo posted revenues of NT$5.231 billion (US$169.78 million) for July, up 2.26% on month and 6.49% on year. Year-to-date, the company had combined revenues of NT$33.182 billion, increasing 13.36% from a year earlier.
