Touch panel maker General Interface Solution (GIS) has reported net profits of NT$824 million (US$26.9 million) for the second quarter of 2018, increasing 36.88% from a quarter earlier. EPS for the quarter stood at NT$2.44 compared to NT$1.78 in the previous quarter.
Despite improved earnings for the second quarter, net profits for the first half of 2018 actually declined 39.46% on year to NT$1.427 billion. EPS for the six-month period reached NT$4.21.
Meanwhile, the company reported revenues of NT$8.042 billion for July, up 6.08% on month but down 37.82% on year. Year-to-date, revenues totaled NT$53.492 billion, down a slightly 1.89% from a year ago.
GIS will see its revenues continue to improve month by month starting the third quarter riding high on the release of new iPhone and iPod Pro devices from Apple, according to industry sources.
In addition to seeing its shipments of touch modules gradually increase in the third quarter, GIS will also witness a rise in shipments of its notebook LCM products as the company has managed to ramp up the notebook LCM module capacity at its plant in Wuxi to 400,000 units a month and also plans to boost the same capacity at its plant in Chengdu to 500,000-700,000 units a month in the third quarter, noted the sources.
