Taiwan-based IPC player Aaeon has cooperated with Intel to unveil an artificial intelligence (AI) Core module that is equipped with Intel's Movidius Myriad 2 VPU, at Embedded World 2018, targeting the AI business opportunity.
The module will be able to serve as an R&D platform, assisting product developers to design AI-related products.
For its cloud computing solution, Aaeon is mainly focusing on applying its AI technologies to edge devices and then integrating the AI Core module with the edge devices to address some of the limitations of the current cloud computing structure.
Aaeon president Howard Lin also pointed out that AI for edge devices is already an existing business opportunity and expects more AI products to show up in industries including retail, manufacturing, medical care, transportation and network security.
At the show, Intel announced that Aaeon is the company's first partner of its Intel AI: In Production project and its AI products are able to assist developers to accelerate mass production of their AI products.
The AI Core module is suitable for applications including objects detection, face recognition for drone, high-end VR earphones, robots, smart home devices, smart surveillance products and retail systems.
