LED packaging service provider Harvatek has established a joint venture with government-sponsored Taiwan Textile Research Institute (TTRI) for developing LED embedded yarn, with the joint venture responsible for competing for orders and Harvatek for production, according to the company.
TTRI has obtained patents in six countries for in-house-developed LED embedded yarn and capitalizes its technology patents as a 30% stake in the joint venture, Harvatek said. LED embedded yarn can be woven into linearly light-emitting fabric to make vests with warning lights, Harvatek indicated.
Harvatek suffered net operating loss of NT$112 million (US$3.46 million) and net loss of NT$169 million for first-half 2015. With utilization of production capacity rising to 70-75%, Harvatek expects third-quarter business to swing to profitability.
Harvatek posted consolidated revenues of NT$347 million for September, decreasing 23.28% on month and 30.90% on year, and those of NT$3.307 billion for January-September slipped 23.98% on year.
