In an effort to maintain a competitive edge in the panel industry, Innolux will construct new 8.6G LCD panel facilities that will go into mass production as of the third quarter of 2016, according to company president JC Wang.
The facilities are expected to have a monthly production capacity of 40,000 glass substrates sized 2,250mm by 2,600mm, as part of Innolux's efforts to focus on product differentiation strategies compared with substrates sized 2,200mm by 2,500mm produced on 8.5G fabs and 1,950 by 2,250mm on 7.5G fabs.
Innolux has been in lengthy discussions over its strategy to stay competitive in the TFT LCD industry as China continues to increase investments into new facilities while Korea and Japan makers further advance in technologies. The company will continue to focus on product differentiation, said Wang, adding that Innolux will be able to produce new 50-, 58- and 23.6-inch TV products from the new facilities.
The 8.6G fab will also be used for Innolux to produce panels starting from 40-, 45- and 50-inch and increasing by 5-inch increments all the way to 100-inch products, the president noted.
The company is also increasing cooperation with Hon Hai Precision Industry (Foxconn Electronics) for investments in 6G LTPS facilities that will have an estimated monthly production capacity of 23,000-24,000 substrates and begin production of limited quantities in the first quarter of 2016, added Wang.
