HTC will team up with US-based sports gear brand Under Armour (UA) to launch a series of hardware devices that can connect with UA's sports community platform, UA Record, for access to fitness management and health care applications.
The HTC-UA alliance comes as more and more handset vendors are rolling out smart wearable devices that feature fitness and health management functionality. To ramp up the penetration rate of their wearable devices in the sports communities, handset brands hence have stepped up their cooperation with sports gear vendors, according to industry watchers.
The UA Record includes MapMyFitness, an open platform seamlessly integrating with more than 400 fitness tracking devices, sensors and wearables. MapMyFitness offers a diversity of interactive and mobile applications under its flagship brands, MapMyRun and MapMyRide, which together have a total of 31 million registered users.
HTC and UA may also jointly develop other smart wearable devices, including smartwatches and smart bracelets, added the observers.
