Taiwan-based optical lens and digital camera maker Asia Optical plans to expand monthly production capacity at its factory in Yangon, Myanmar, from 200,000-250,000 lens kits currently to 700,000 units, according to a Chinese-language Economic Daily News (EDN) report.

Asia Optical plans to obtain approval to invest in the capacity expansion from its board of directors by the end of 2013 at the earliest and then finish the expansion by the end of 2014, the paper indicated.

The Yangon factory has about 5,000 employees currently and will start production of 52x zoom lenses for a Japan-based vendor in two months, according to the report.
