Taiwan-based passive component manufacturers Thinking Electronic Industrial and Viking Tech have both reported slight sequential increases in revenues for August 2012.

Thinking announced August consolidated sales of NT$356 million (US$11.9 million), up about 2% on month but down 4.7% on year. Consolidated revenues for the first eight months of 2012 totaled NT$2.77 billion, down 3.65% from a year ago.

Thinking makes circuit protection components for handsets and PCs. Rising demand coming from the smartphone sector is expected to help drive the company's sales growth in the second half of 2012, according to market sources. Thinking's sales ratio between the first and second halves of 2012 is estimated at 45:55.

Viking generated revenues of NT$97 million in August, up 2.3% on month. Revenues amounted to NT$736 million for the first eight months of 2012, up 6.7% from a year ago.

Viking's capacity for high-frequency inductors has reportedly been fully occupied, and that for thin-film chip resistors is at more than 70% utilization. However, demand for its other product segments appears weak, market sources observed.
