Digital camera maker Altek has managed to push the sale of its 3.5G Android-enabled smartphone, the A14 Leo, into telecom operators in Taiwan and China, including Chunghwa Telecom (CHT) and China Unicom. The A14 Leo is equipped with a 14-megapixel camera.
The A14 Leo will also debut in some emerging markets, including India and Russia, starting the second quarter 2011, the sources added.
The A14 Leo is also equipped with a 3.2-inch WVGA capacitive touch panel, powered by a 800 MHz processor and supports Wi-Fi/WAPI, Bluetooth and GPS functionalities.
Altek also plans to launch another Android phone running on Android 2.2 or 2.3 platforms before the year-end 2011, according to the company.
In addition to launching own-brand devices, Altek will also handle ODM orders from international branded handset vendors, said the company, adding that the company currently has a production capacity of 50,000 handsets a month but the capacity can be expanded flexibly.
