Taiwan-based motherboard maker Elitegroup Computer Systems (ECS) has hired an ex-Inventec notebook business vice president as the leader of its newly formed seventh business unit for notebook manufacturing, according to sources from motherboard players.
The new business unit is staffed by about 20 members and is currently focusing on netbook development.
However, since the company already has a notebook manufacturing business unit, which is formed by members of the acquired Uniwill, the company is reportedly planning to merge the two business units or position the new business unit as a branch of the original one, the sources noted.
ECS' original notebook manufacturing business unit has recently suffered significant losses of technicians as well as executives due to Shuttle's headhunting, and the sources believe ECS' move is meant to rebuild the base of its notebook business.
ECS declined to comment on the news and said it will make an official announcement of any such moves.
