Quanta Computer saw revenues of NT$204 billion (US$6.22 billion) for the third quarter this year, a drop of 3% on quarter, however the company's net profit after tax reached NT$7.21 billion, increases of 43% on quarter and 37% on year, while gross margin also increased from 5.03% in the second quarter to 5.71%, according to chairman Barry Lam.

The company shipped 9.7 million notebooks in the third quarter, an increase of 11.49% compared to 8.7 million units in the second quarter. Although the company's annual notebook shipments may not reach its original goal of 40 million units, the company's annual profits are still expected to see growth.

For 2009, Quanta's notebook shipments are expected to see an annual growth of 15-20%, Lam said.

The falling global economy has changed consumer's spending habits, but while the effects are hurting most consumer electronics products, since notebooks are becoming a more essential item in everyday life, Lam said he does not expect the notebook market to see any major impact from the financial downturn.
