Taiwan-based headset maker Merry Electronics will begin volume production of speakers for notebook PCs and LCD TVs in the second half of 2008, with the new products to contribute greatly to growth in revenues this year, according to company sources.
Merry also plans to transform itself into a DMS (design and manufacturing service) company, from its current status as an ODM maker, the sources stated.
In other news, Merry projects its revenues for the first quarter of 2008 to decline 8-12% sequentially from the fourth quarter of 2007 before heading for a 20% on-quarter growth in the second quarter.
Total consolidated revenues for 2008 are expected to grow over 50% from the NT$8.94 billion (US$290.3 million) recorded in 2007, which was up 51.4% from 2006, the company estimated.
Hands-free headsets for handsets accounted for 66% of the company's total revenues in 2007, followed by Bluetooth headsets with 16% and speakers with 11%, the company said.
