Compared to monthly sales in January 2007, Taiwan-based small- to medium-size LCD module (LCM) makers had a strong performance in January 2008 with major companies posting rising revenues, compared to revenues in December 2007.

Most LCM makers had better-than-expected sales in January. Giantplus Technology enjoyed monthly sales jump 66% sequentially to NT$1.26 billion (US$39.7 million) in January while Powertip Technology and Emerging Display Technology (EDT) both had more than a 20% growth in revenues during the month.

Giantplus said the company has seen orders rebound from China white-box handset makers. Star World Technology commented that although sales in January and February were affected by heavy snowfall in China, overall demand remains strong and customers are pressing for orders. Star reported monthly sales up 9% sequentially to NT$296 million last month, said the company.

Among major Taiwan LCM specialists, Wintek and Prime View International (PVI) are the only two suppliers that saw sales drop in January.
