Compal settles patent lawsuit with LG

Compal Electronics has settled a lawsuit with LG Electronics over the use of LG's patented technologies in computer products by signing a cross-licensing agreement, according to a company April 3 filing with the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TSE).

While stating that Compal will benefit from the cross-licensing agreement on product development and sales, the company denied a media report stating that it had paid US$200 million to LG in order to settle the patent infringement lawsuit that the South Korean company filed against Compal in 2001.

In an April 4 report, the Chinese-language Economic Daily News (EDN) quoted LG sources as saying that LG has withdrawn its complaint against Compal.
