Following Sony's rollout of low-cost LCD TVs in the Taiwan market, Taiwan-based Kolin on July 1 announced that the company has cut prices for its 32-, 37-, and 40-inch LCD TVs by NT$3,000 (US$92), according to the Chinese-language Commercial Times.

Before the price cut, Kolin was offering its 32-inch LCD TVs for NT$32,900-35,000, while its 37-and 40-inch offerings were priced at NT$53,888 and NT$63,888, respectively, according to the Chinese-language Apple Daily.

Last week, Sony unveiled its new Bravia LCD TVs in the Taiwan market with its new 40-inch model priced at only NT$79,900, about 43% lower than the previous model. In May, LG Electronics also slashed prices for its 32-, 37-, and 42-inch LCD TVs by 21%-31.4%, according to the company.

As first-tier makers are now adopting an aggressive pricing strategy, the market sources indicated that Taiwan-based LCD TV suppliers may soon follow suit to remain competitive.
