Japan-based JSR Corporation, a major supplier of color pigment dispersed resists used for producing color filters (CFs), will start construction on its new plant in Central Taiwan Science-based Industrial Park, Yunlin Base on June 1, according to JSR Micro Taiwan.
The company expects construction to be completed in February 2006, with volume production commencing in the summer of 2006. The company stated it plans to produce color pigment dispersed resists used for LCD image displays at the plant.
The total investment for the project will be approximately 2.5 billion yen (NT$ 730 million), and the plant will cover approximately 50,000 square meters, including area for future expansion, according to a company press release.
With Korea- and Taiwan-based panel makers ramping up capacity at their next generation TFT-LCD plants, JSR has decided to set up production facilities in both countries, with its Korean facilities being established last year. JSR Micro Taiwan also foresees the market for TFT-LCD upstream components doubling or tripling by 2006.
Currently, Japan-based JSP, Toyo Ink and Fujifilm Arch, are the three leading supplier of color pigment dispersed resists in the world.
