Albatron Technology has decided to outsource its motherboard production to Fastfame Technology’s factory in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province (China) and Yu-An’s (transliterated from Chinese) plant in Shanghai this month to cut costs.
The two companies, both based in Taiwan, are its first two contract-manufacturing partners, said Albatron chairman Jack Ko. In the near future, the motherboard maker will add a third partner for production. In the longer-term, Albatron does not rule out building its own factories in China, Ko added, but at present the project is not of great necessity.
Currently, the outsourcing is limited to motherboards. Ko said that the company’s graphics card production will stay in Taiwan, handled by contract-manufacturing partners here.
Starting up as a home electronics maker, Albatron extended its business scope into the motherboard and graphics card markets early this year. After its first graphics card shipments in May, the company’s overall output has steadily built up month on month. Its combined shipments of motherboards and graphics cards were estimated at 50,000-60,000 units in July and 80,000-90,000 units in August and are expected to exceed 100,000 units this month.
