Singapore's semiconductor sector took a major step this week with the launch of its first 12-inch wafer fab in Tampines on September 28.

The fab is run by VisionPower Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (VSMC), a joint venture of NXP Semiconductors and Vanguard International Semiconductor (VIS), with help from Taiwan's TSMC.
