PHE Power Solutions has cooperated with US-based Fluence to set up energy storage systems in Taiwan, while PV power-generating station investor and operator HD Renewable Energy is doing so by establishing a subsidiary, Star Renewable Energy, according to the companies.

PHE began strategic cooperation with Fluence, a joint venture of Siemens and US-based electricity supplier AES, to set up an energy storage system with an installed capacity of 100MW in eastern Taiwan for AFC (automatic frequency control) ancillary services. The system is offered at Power Trading Platform established by state-run Taiwan Power Company, company chairman TJ Tsai said.

PHE is in planning for setting up a few energy storage systems with a total installation capacity of hundreds of MW, Tsai noted. The establishment of energy storage systems is necessary for Taiwan, but system owners are faced with challenges in operation and maintenance, Tsai indicated.

Star Renewable is setting up two energy storage systems separately at two PV power-generating stations being set up by HD Renewable in southern Taiwan and another in Pescadores, Taiwan's offshore islands, with a total installed capacity of nearly 100MW, HD Renewable said.

HD Renewable has developed a cloud computing-based AI smart management system for monitoring operation of self-established PV power-generating stations and regulating the supply of generated electricity for outside users to optimize sales. Besides, the company has established another subsidiary, Star EV Charger, specifically for developing and operating electric vehicle-use power charging piles and stations.
