Global OSAT leader ASE continued its expansion into advanced processes as its subsidiary ASE Test held a groundbreaking ceremony on April 10, 2026, at the Renwu Industrial Park. ASE collaborated with WinWay and Horng Terng Automation (HTA) to jointly invest in building a high-end semiconductor testing service industrial park that will provide wafer and chip testing services.

Phased launch, billion-dollar bet

CEO Tien Wu stated that the first phase of the Renwu site is scheduled to officially commence operations in April 2027, followed by the second phase in October of the same year. The project plans to invest over NT$108.3 billion (US$3.4 billion) in capital expenditure, with an estimated total annual output value of about NT$177.3 billion once fully operational.

ASE stated that the group continues to expand its investments in Taiwan, positioning Kaohsiung as the core for promoting semiconductor development and further consolidating Taiwan's leading position in the global semiconductor industry.

Bridging front-end and back-end

The Renwu park aims to strengthen the critical landscape for advanced testing services. It will significantly enhance overall efficiency between front-end wafer manufacturing and back-end packaging and testing, while rapidly responding to robust growth in global AI and high-performance computing demand.

The park plans to offer packaging and testing services integrated with AI smart manufacturing technologies, including visual cloud inspection systems and fully automated unmanned transport equipment. The buildings comply with Kaohsiung city government's green building regulations, incorporating clean production assessments and green building certifications to create an environmentally friendly, highly efficient, zero-pollution smart factory powered by green energy.

Deepening local semiconductor ties

Wu highlighted that the global semiconductor industry had entered a crucial transformation phase amid supply chain restructuring. ASE continues to drive transformation and upgrading, with the new plant groundbreaking marking a milestone. Collaborations with WinWay and HTA deepen local upstream and downstream cooperation within the semiconductor packaging and testing sector, ensuring synchronized development of technology and capacity.

ASE noted that demand for advanced packaging and testing would cultivate semiconductor talent in Taiwan and become a key piece in the Kaohsiung city government's efforts to build a silicon photonics industry chain. This strategy is gradually constructing a complete semiconductor corridor in Kaohsiung, effectively shortening supply chain distances and showcasing Taiwan's silicon shield strength and value to the world.

Rooted in Kaohsiung for over four decades

ASE originated from the Kaohsiung Nanzih Technology Industrial Park and has been deeply rooted in Kaohsiung for 42 years. With approximately 280,000 square meters at Nanzih as its core base, it has extended to new sites exceeding 110,000 square meters in Luzhu and Dashe, plus a strategic footprint of about 50,000 square meters in Renwu, progressively building a comprehensive semiconductor packaging and testing industrial cluster.
