At the 2026 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Hyundai Motor Group Chairman and CEO Chung Eui-sun held a private meeting with Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, marking their first in-person encounter since October 2025. The discussion, focused on Nvidia's newly unveiled self-driving platform, Alpamayo, has fueled speculation about the potential expansion of the two companies' strategic partnership.

According to South Korean media outlets Chosun Biz and Newsis, Chung toured Nvidia's CES exhibit at the Fontainebleau Las Vegas before engaging in a roughly 30-minute conversation with Huang. During his visit, Chung also briefly met Huang's daughter, Miriam Huang, before the CEO discussion.

CES 2026 was Chung's first visit to the event in two years. The timing of the meeting, coming shortly after Nvidia's public introduction of Alpamayo, has drawn attention, particularly as Hyundai's autonomous vehicle capabilities are widely seen as trailing competitors such as Tesla. Observers are now watching to see whether Hyundai will leverage Nvidia's AI platform to accelerate its self-driving initiatives.

Hyundai has already signaled its interest in broader collaboration. Earlier at CES 2026, Vice Chairman Chang Jae-hoon noted the company is exploring multiple paths for integrating Alpamayo technology, with final strategic decisions expected soon.

The meeting comes as Hyundai pushes a global strategy centered on "Physical AI," a framework for combining robotics and artificial intelligence. Hyundai's robotics subsidiary, Boston Dynamics, recently formed a strategic partnership with Google DeepMind, highlighting the automaker's commitment to expanding its international AI collaborations.

Last year, Hyundai and Nvidia signed a strategic partnership, and in October 2025, Hyundai announced it would acquire 50,000 of Nvidia's next-generation Blackwell GPUs to enhance its AI capabilities in autonomous driving and robotics.

At CES 2026, Chung also visited Hyundai's AI robotics exhibit and toured displays from major partners, including LG Electronics and Samsung Electronics, signaling a hands-on approach to scouting technology alliances. His presence at multiple corporate exhibits has heightened expectations for future collaborations between Hyundai and leading global tech companies.
