Amkor Technology, Inc. announced on August 28 that it will relocate the planned site of its new advanced semiconductor packaging and test facility in Arizona to the Peoria Innovation Core in north Peoria.

In a press release, the facility will be built on a 104-acre parcel following approval by the Peoria City Council of a land swap and amended development agreement. The change allows Amkor to exchange its previously designated 56-acre site in the Five North at Vistancia community for the new location. Construction is scheduled to begin within days, with production expected to start in early 2028, according to the company.

The project represents an investment of about US$2 billion and is projected to create roughly 2,000 jobs. Peoria Mayor Jason Beck said the city's collaboration with Amkor marks a significant development for the region's role in the US semiconductor supply chain.

The announcement comes as Arizona positions itself as a key hub for US semiconductor production. Federal and state-level incentives under the CHIPS and Science Act have accelerated investment in local manufacturing, with multiple multinational companies building or expanding facilities in the state.

Amkor's revised plan underscores ongoing efforts by both companies and local governments to balance industrial growth with land-use planning and infrastructure requirements. The decision to relocate to the Peoria Innovation Core reflects coordination between the company and city officials to secure a site with greater flexibility for development.

Production at the facility is expected to come online around 2028, adding to Arizona's advanced manufacturing capacity at a time when demand for semiconductor packaging and testing continues to rise globally.
