Southern Taiwan Science Park (STSP) reported a sharp surge in revenue in early 2025, propelled by the global artificial intelligence (AI) boom and strong semiconductor demand. From January to April, total revenue reached NT$904.514 billion (approx. US$30.53 billion), marking a 58.60% year-over-year increase and putting the park on track to exceed the NT$1 trillion mark.
According to data from the Southern Taiwan Science Park Bureau, revenue for January and February hit NT$403.234 billion, up 46.82% compared to the same period in 2024. The momentum continued into March and April, with revenue rising 69.55% year-over-year to NT$501.28 billion.
The park's exceptional performance was largely driven by the semiconductor industry, which capitalized on the surging demand for high-performance computing (HPC) and AI applications. Semiconductor firms in the park generated NT$785.493 billion in revenue from January to April, up 68.23% from a year ago, with both advanced and mature process nodes contributing to the growth.
The optoelectronics sector also showed positive momentum, buoyed by China's home appliance subsidies and US tariff-driven pull-in orders. The industry posted NT$63.05 billion in revenue over the four-month period, an 8.28% increase year-on-year.
Meanwhile, the computer and peripherals industry saw a 24.52% increase in revenue, reaching NT$16.293 billion, thanks to rising global demand for AI servers. The precision machinery sector achieved even stronger growth, surging 74.43% to NT$27.689 billion, driven by robust demand for semiconductor and AI-related equipment and components.
The biotechnology industry also registered stable growth, supported by robust sales of vaccines and medical devices. It reported NT$4.651 billion in revenue for the first four months, an 8.19% year-over-year increase.
Officials said the park's performance underscores Taiwan's growing importance in the global AI and semiconductor supply chains and that STSP is expected to maintain strong momentum throughout 2025.
