AI PCs require high-speed computing that will stimulate related peripheral chip demand and specification upgrades, according to Lo Sen Chou, chairman of IC design house Egis Technology (EgisTec), which looks to capitalize on relevant business opportunities.
EgisTec recently held its Tech Day event, during which the company expressed its optimism about the growth potential of AI PCs. Lo talked about the group's transformation strategy, saying that small and mid-sized IC design companies face tough competition from their Chinese peers, adding that the separation of American and Chinese supply chains has posed operational challenges and forced the group to develop platform solutions.
In attendance at the event was Acer Group founder Stan Shih, who pointed out that it is only now that hardware technology can realize the vision of AI. And not just supercomputers, edge AI applications are also rapidly developing, he said. From 2024 onward, Shih believes AI will begin to flourish and that Taiwanese manufacturers will play a crucial role in this trend.
In the future, EgisTec Group's business model will develop its research and development horizontally and sales vertically. Product-wise, the group will continue to pursue market trends and work to become a technological pioneer.
EgisTec will officially launch direct time-of-flight (dToF) and ALS/P products to avoid price competition with Chinese competitors in 2024. In the long term, the group will utilize its various IP and design technologies to create a single AI platform for numerous applications, including mobile phones, PCs, automotive, consumer electronics, and AIoT.
Over the past three years, EgisTec has deployed a wide range of sensors, transmission technologies, image processors, and AI applications. Paired with the AI PC deployments of Intel, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), and Microsoft, they have launched comprehensive end-to-end AI PC solutions.
EgisTec's solutions help enhance the image sensor processor (ISP) functions of Intel and AMD NPUs and also conform to the energy-saving specifications of Microsoft's human presence detection, significantly extending notebook battery life and meeting ESG energy-saving and carbon reduction requirements.
EgisTec subsidiary iCatch Technology has launched automotive vision AI and driver monitoring system (DMS) solutions, while subsidiary AlgolTek has developed a new AI power IC solution. In the upcoming year, EgisTec Group will launch several new products, including MIPI A-PHY, USB4, PCIe Gen4, Wi-Fi 6/6E, AI-always on, RGB/AON/DVS sensors, dToF, and ALS/P sensors. The group phase stated that AI PCs' "Always On" function is the most anticipated application, which said that preparations for related products to enter the market have already been made.
