Quanta Computer's board of directors has approved a company plan to set up a new plant in Vietnam for up to US$50 million, the ODM issued a filing with the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TWSE) on April 17.
Quanta indicated that the Vietnam plant will be wholly owned by the Taiwan-based firm and will primarily produce PCs and consumer electronics products. However, releasing information such as the date of establishment, the location of the plant, and the point at which mass production begins is not convenient at this time, said the company.
Rumors have circulated since the end of 2022 that Quanta is mulling a plant in northern Vietnam to primarily fulfill orders for Apple's MacBooks. Apple's other assemblers including Compal Electronics, Hon Hai Precision Industry (Foxconn), Pegatron, and Wistron are already operating notebook assembly plants in the country.
