The US has added 37 companies to a trade blacklist, including 28 based in China. Among the Chinese companies are Inspur and Loongson Technology.
The US Commerce Department's Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) recently issued a rule that adds 37 entities to the Entity List for, among other activities, contributing to Russia's military and/or defense industrial base, supporting China's military modernization, and facilitating or engaging in human rights abuses in Burma and China. This rule is effective March 2, 2023.
Yangtze Memory Technology and 35 other Chinese companies were added to the Entity List by the US BIS in December 2022.
Taiwanese companies involved in the supply chain of newly added Chinese entities eligible for blacklisting, such as Global Unichip, may face operational challenges. Ethernet switch IC specialist Centec is reportedly the second largest customer of Global Unichip, an IC design service company partnering with foundries such as TSMC.
