Chunghwa Telecom (CHT) will set up an outdoor 5G O-RAN (open radio access network) n79 (4.4GHz-5GHz frequency band) private network in Kaohsiung, southern Taiwan, according to CHT.

The private network will be used to test stability and compatibility of locally produced O-RAN cell equipment, CHT said. Besides, results of such tests will be reference for local producers of O-RAN equipment to optimize their products, helpful for them to enter the international market, CHT noted.

In addition to the private network, CHT will set up an in-house-developed IOC (intelligent operation center), a platform for compatibility of data to support data collection, conversion and transfers needed in developing 5G application, CHT indicated.

IOC will be available for use on a rental basis to reduce the financial and technological barrier for developers of 5G applications, CHT noted.

CHT was a charter member of the Asia New Bay Area 5G AIoT International Alliance formed in November 2020 and began to develop 5G AI+IoT-based application and services through cooperation with partners in the area in April 2021.
