AOET developing non-notebook-use optical lenses

Ability Opto-Electronics Technology (AOET), in a bid to diversify its product lines, has been developing precision optical lenses for devices other than notebooks, including automotive cameras, smart surveillance systems, drones and facial/iris recognition modules, according to company chairman and president Victor Gao.

AOET currently occupies about 69% of global shipments of notebook-use optical lenses, with clients including Dell, HP and Acer, industry sources said.

While second-half 2022 operation is expected to improve from the first half, there is some uncertainty because major clients, mostly notebook vendors, are clearing inventories from the end of June 2022 to early July, Gao said.

As high pixel counts, large viewing angles and large aperture are the trend for lens development, AOET focuses R&D on hiking precision of optical lenses, Gao noted.

AOET is setting up a factory in central Taiwan and will begin production there later in 2022.

AOET has reported consolidated revenues of NT$377.9 million (US$12.8 million) for May, rising 4.53% sequentially and 45.60% on year, and those of NT$1.723 billion for January-May grew 15.30% on year.
