Delivery lead times at Taiwan-based packaging and testing houses have been extended, as fabless chipmakers are striving for capacity support, according to industry sources.

Some fabless chipmakers, such as MCU suppliers, intend to pay a premium price for orders requiring short lead times, the sources indicated. Taiwan's backend houses are likely to raise their quotes for the fourth quarter to reflect their tight capacities, the sources said.

Meanwhile, capacities at Taiwan-based pure-play foundries remain tight, with 8-inch foundry production lead times extending to over six months, the sources noted. Lead times at 12-inch foundries have also been extended to more than three months, the sources continued.

Taiwan-based foundries, particularly 8-inch ones, have already raised their quotes and will make another upward adjustments in their quotes for the first quarter of 2021, previous reports quoted industry sources as saying.
