IC testing interfaces provider Chunghwa Precision Test Technology (CHPT) expects its sales for 2020 to peak in second- to third-quarter on rising demand for high-end testing interfaces and related tools driven by evolving advanced IC packaging technologies that come along with the heterogeneous integration of 5G mobile chips, according to company president Scott Huang.

The development of 5G chips for IoT and sub-6GHz 5G devices will bring advancements to SiP process, while those supporting mmWave 5G technology are likely to further strengthen AiP (antenna-in-package) and AoC (antenna-on-chip) packaging technologies, Huang explained.

Giving CHPT has accounted for over 70% of the global testing interface market for smartphone-use application processors, the company is foraying into new niche market segments, including automotive electronics, AI, IoT and HPC (high performance computing), Huang added.

While seeing revenues generating from its vertical probe card (VPC) products increase significantly in May, the company has also managed to expand the client base for the lineup, reducing the risk of relying on orders from a single larger customer, Huang revealed.

The company's May revenues came to NT$353 million (US$11.8 million), up 3% on month and 67.8% on year. Year-to-date, revenues totaled NT$1.579 billion, increasing 55.7% from a year earlier.

Meanwhile, the company's board of directors has appointed Kuo-feng Lin as its new chairman, succeeding outgoing Huang Hsiu-gu.
