Vertically-integrated LED maker Opto Tech has received many rush orders for infrared (IR) LED and UV-C LED devices as well as Si-based sensor chips arising from the coronavirus pandemic, with the corresponding production capacities fully utilized and shipments scheduled until the second quarter of 2020, according to the company.

IR LED devices and Si-based sensor chips are used in signal transmitters and receivers of medical equipment and devices, while UV-C LED devices are used in consumer devices for disinfection, the company explained.

Demand has been growing since clients resumed production in China in February-March and is turning considerably strong in April, with the momentum likely to continue in May and June, Opto Tech said.

Opto Tech has obtained licensed use of UV-C LED water disinfection technology developed by government-sponsored Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI). As existing production capacity for UV-C LED devices is insufficient to meet drastically rising demand, Opto Tech is adjusting allocation of overall production capacity and expects the corresponding revenue proportion to rise to 10% in second-half 2020.

Opto Tech posted consolidated revenues of NT$413.9 million (US$13.7 million) for March, increasing 19.75% sequentially but decreasing 4.38% on year, and those of NT$1.164 billion for January-March rose 1.22% on year.
