HannStar Display reports profit for 2019

HannStar Display has reported net profit of NT$788 million (US$26.16 million) for 2019 even though it posted losses in the last quarter of the year. The earnings showed a decline of 22.75% from a year earlier.

Fourth-quarter losses came to NT$13 million, mainly due to an asset impairment loss of NT$162.66 million, said the company.

EPS for all of 2019 stood at NT$0.25 compared to NT$0.32 of a year earlier, as gross margin decreased to 11.44% from 16.7%.

The company said its shipments increased 2.4% sequentially to 4.107 million 19-inch equivalent panels in the fourth quarter of 2019, with their ASP standing at US$36.

Shipments of small- to medium-size panels totaled 123 million units in the fourth quarter of 2019. It also shipped 430,000 large-size panels and 110,000 own-brand display products in the quarter.

Fellow companies AU Optronics (AUO) and Innolux both slid into the red in 2019 after operating with profits for six consecutive years. Both have said that they will strive to return to profitability in 2020, having registered losses of NT$19.19 billion and NT$17.44 billion, respectively, in 2019.
