Ansys has increased its R&D workforce in Taiwan by 50% to support its local chipmaking partners, according to Roger Lee, company country manager for Taiwan.

About one-tenth of Ansys newly-added workforce is to support local foundries, such as TSMC and UMC, said Lee. Ansys has had its tools validated for TSMC's newer 5nm FinFET process, as well as for the foundry's SoIC 3D IC packaging technology, for example, Lee continued.

Ansys with its custom tools has also entered the supply chains of ASE Technology Holding and Global Unichip, Lee indicated. Taiwan is now Ansys' largest market in the Asia Pacific region in terms of revenue, Lee continued.

The emerging 5G, AI, automotive electronics and HPC applications will continue to boost Ansys' revenue generated from the Taiwan market in 2020, Lee noted. Ansys has enjoyed double-digit increases in sales generated from Taiwan over the past several years.
