CMOS image sensor (CIS) packaging specialist Kingpak Technology has reported consolidated revenues of NT$205 million (US$6.8 million) for October 2019, surging 30% sequentially and 16% on year due mainly to sharp rebound in shipments to the automotive and security CIS segments, according to industry sources.

Kingpak has seen backend orders for automotive CIS solutions start picking up significantly in September, sending the segment's revenues surging 40% on year in October, when the firm's revenues from the security and surveillance CIS segment also rose slightly from a year earlier, the sources said.

In the first 10 months of the year, Kingpak's revenues from automotive CIS packaging business registered an annual expansion of near 20% and accounted for over 70% of its total revenues for the period.

Having passed product validations by major IDMs in Europe, Japan and the US, Kingpak is expected to win more automotive CIS packaging orders in the next 3-5 years, industry sources said.

The sources said that Kingpak's automotive CIS packaging market share will pick up steadily in the medium- and long-term as demand for autonomous vehicles and ADAS systems will expand significantly along with the availability of comprehensive 5G networks.
