SSD prices continue fall in China

SSD prices have been falling in China, with prices for 128GB SSDs having dropped over 10% in the last two months, according to sources at memory module makers.

The weakening of China's yuan has had a negative impact on sales of SSDs and other consumer technology products in China, said the sources. Falling prices of SSDs and other memory devices may stimulate China's domestic market demand, but suppliers are aware of a price war likely to be triggered, the sources indicated.

Meanwhile, upstream chipmakers are eyeing a rebound in NAND flash prices, the sources noted. Downstream module makers and channel distributors, which are under pressure to cut their prices, have become cautious about their outlook for the rest of 2019, despite the upcoming Single's Day in China, the sources said.

Retail prices for 240GB SSDs in China have fallen around 10% over the past two months, while prices for 128GB ones have declined more than 10%, the sources continued. With SSD prices continuing their slide, products with a storage capacity of 480GB and above 480GB are becoming the mainstream, the sources said.
