Asustek Computer has officially launched its next-generation ZenFone 6 smartphone at a product event in Spain, as it seeks to make a turnaround of its money-losing smartphone business.
The ZenFone 6 lineup will be available in three configurations with top-notch specifications, including a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor, a Gorilla Glass 6 and aluminum body, a flip-top dual-lens camera and a 5,000mAh battery.
The ZenFone 6 family will target the mid-tier smartphone segment with a basic model with 6GB RAM and 64GB ROM, to be available at EUR499 (about US$557) in Europe.
To carve out its own niche in the smartphone space, Asustek is also likely to launch its second-generation gaming ROG Phone at the upcoming ChinaJoy trade fair in Shanghai on August 2 at the earliest.
Asustek will team up with Tencent for the official debut of the new ROG Phone in China, leveraging the latter's well-established channels and ecosystem in the country.
Future sales of the new ROG Phone will be crucial to whether Asustek could make a turnaround of its smartphone business in the second half of 2019, according to industry sources.
