Tianma Micro-electronics is shipping its second-generation all-screen smartphone displays to Huawei for the production of its Nova 3e smartphone, the vendor's first notch-type mobile phone, according to industry observers.
The Nove 3e features 5.8-inch 2,280 by 1,080 panels that has a notch-type design (similar to the OLED panel with a u-shape cut in Apple's iPhone X), said the observers, adding that the display has a contrast ratio of 1,500:1 and an aspect ratio of 19:9.
In addition to cracking into Huawei's handset supply chain, Tianma's all-screen displays have also found their way to the supply chains of Oppo, Vivo and Lenovo (Motorola), indicated the sources.
Tianma shipped 24 million all-screen handset panels in 2017, accounting for the largest share (26%) of the global shipments of LCD all-screen displays in the year.
The Nova 3e is powered by a HiSilicon Kirin 659 CPU and features a dual-camera (16-mega and 2-megapixel) setup and a 24-megapixel front-facing camera. The model will be available in the China market starting March 27 at CNY1,999 (US$317) for a 4GB/64GB version and CNY2,199 for a 4GB/128GB variant.
