Optical component and module maker PCL Technologies has reported first-half 2016 consolidated revenues of NT$930.5 million (US$28.9 million), increasing 13.48% on year, gross margin 28.56% up 5.33pp, operating profit NT$143.2 million up 53.24%, and net profit 158.2 million, up 29.39%.

The significant on-year growth was mainly due to increased shipments of LTE optical transceiver modules to China- and Japan-based telecom carriers, PCL said. PCL expects LTE and LTE-Advanced optical transceiver modules as well as optical transceiver modules used in data centers to drive revenue growth in the second half of 2016.

Meanwhile, optical communication component maker LuxNet saw its operations swing to operating losses for the first time, at NT$6 million, in the second quarter. The company reported a net loss of NT$37.3 million for the quarter.
