Digitimes Research: Taiwan makers ship 49.42 million large-size TFT-LCD panels in 1Q16

Taiwan-based TFT-LCD panel makers shipped 49.42 million large-size (9-inch and above) panels during the first quarter of 2016, decreasing 17.8% on quarter and 17.9% on year and accounting for 33% of the global total, according to Digitimes Research.

In comparison, South Korea-based makers, Samsung Display and LG Display, had combined large-size panel shipments for the first quarter slip 14% on quarter, while combined shipments for Japan- and China-based makers declined 20% and 5%, Digitimes Research indicated.

Of large-size panels shipped by Taiwan-based makers in the first quarter, 35.23% were used in notebooks, 30.82% in TVs, 21.63% in monitors, 9.59% in tablets and 2.73% other applications.

Among Taiwan-based makers, AU Optronics and Innolux accounted for 48.5% and 47.1%, respectively, of first-quarter shipments.
