Samsung Display will begin mass producing transparent OLED displays in December, with initial supply mainly going to North America-based retailers for use in show case applications, according to Korea-based iNEWS 24.
High-end retailers such as Louis Vuitton (LV) are expected to use the technology in addition to other name-brand vendors for showcasing their products. Samsung will also send products to various hotel chains. Many of the products will be sized 55-inch and have Full HD resolution.
LG Display meanwhile is expected to produce the technology at a later date but will aim at other applications, including TV, refrigerator, vehicle and indoor decorative applications. The report said LG is aiming at 4K products, however.
