Samsung Electronics has teamed up with Taiwan-based bicycle vendor Merida to sell its Gear S smartwatches and Gear Circle Bluetooth headphones in the Taiwan market.
The Gear S and Gear Circle will be available at Merida's six flagship shops around Taiwan, targeting a group of two million regular bicycle riders, said the companies.
Despite carrying a suggested price tag of over NT$10,000 (US$320), sales of the Gear S in the Taiwan market have been stronger than expected, said Andy Tu, general manager of Samsung's mobile communication business in Taiwan.
Samsung currently ranks as the top smartwatch vendor globally with a 73.6% share, Tu said, citing data from Strategy Analytics.
The Gear S sports a 2-inch curved AMOLED display, dual-core 1GHz processor and standalone 3G connectivity, with 512MB of RAM and has 4GB of on-board storage.
