Gintech Energy recorded net EPS of NT$0.60 (US$0.0198) for the first quarter of 2014, the highest among main Taiwan-based crystalline silicon solar cell makers.
Except E-Ton Solar Tech, all other Taiwan-based solar cell makers generated net profits for the first quarter and this was due to surging orders from China-based PV module makers who were maximizing exports to the US market before the US government makes preliminary anti-dumping and anti-subsidization decision in June.
China-based PV module makers accounted for 50-60% of orders received by main Taiwan-based solar cell makers in the first quarter. Following the US government's preliminary decision, China-based PV module makers are expected to sharply reduce exports to the US market and therefore their orders for Taiwan-based solar cell makers will decrease.
