Trials of TD-LTE base stations using 700MHz band units have been established in a small city in eastern China, according to China-based media reports.
The 700MHz spectrum for TD-LTE base stations would give 3-4 times the coverage by radius of a 2600MHz TD-LTE base station, with signals 20dB stronger indoors and 20-30dB outdoors, the reports noted.
The 700MHz band is currently used for analog terrestrial TV broadcasts and an estimated total bandwidth of 100MHz will become available once the digitization of terrestrial TV broadcasts is completed, the reports indicated.
However, China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology is in charge of TD-LTE while the 700MHz band is under the administration of the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT). TD-LTE operators looking to use the 700MHz spectrum would have to deal with two government departments, the reports pointed out.
