Diffuser plate and light guide plate maker Entire Technology will kick off production of optical-grade PET film at its new factory in northern Taiwan in the first quarter of 2014, according to the company.
Entire said it has invested NT$2 billion (US$67.3 million) setting up the factory, including land, buildings and production equipment.
Optical-grade PET film is mainly used to make high-end ITO film, a key material of touch panels, and Entire Technology is in the certification process with Japan-based clients, the company indicated. Entire will also seek orders from Taiwan- and China-based clients.
The factory is equipped with simultaneous biaxial stretching machines which can solve the problem of PET film shrinking at high temperature, although such equipment costs more than double conventional models, Entire pointed out.
Entire saw operations swing from net losses for five consecutive quarters into net profits for the third quarter of 2013.
China-based LCD TV vendors are expected to launch direct-type LED-backlit Ultra HD TVs in 2014, which will generate increased demand for diffuser plates, Entire indicated.
