Samsung Electronics plans to expand the trimmed down versions of its smartphones by launching the Galaxy Note 3 Lite with a display size of 5.5-5.7-inch in the first quarter of 2014, according to industry sources.
The Galaxy Note 3 Lite is being planned due to stronger than expected sales of Samsung's entry-level to mid-range models, the Galaxy Trend Lite and Galaxy Fame Lite, the sources noted.
The Galaxy Note 3 Lite will come with trimmed down hardware specifications including application processor, display and built-in camera compared to the Galaxy Note 3, added the sources.
Fellow company LG Electronics appears to be in step with Samsung, recently launching the low-cost LG G Pro Lite, which is a variant of its flagship Optimus G Pro.
Other vendors may follow suit to release trimmed down variants if sales of mini- or Max/Ultra-series models are weaker than expected, commented the sources.
