Asustek Computer expects its notebook/convertible notebook shipments in 2014 to increase 10% on year mainly due to large growth in shipments of New EeePC and Chromebook models, company CEO Jerry Shen said at a November 13 investors conference.
New EeePC refers to Windows 8.1 2-in-1 (notebook/tablet) convertible models. Asustek has launched a New EeePC model, Transformer Book T100, and expects to ship 500,000 units in the fourth quarter, Shen said. New EeePC shipments in 2014 are expected to reach 2-4 million units for a global market share of about 30%, Shen indicated.
Asustek will enter the market segment of Chromebook by launching 11.6- and 13.3-inch models initially for sale at US$249 on average in early 2014, Shen said. Chromebook for educational application is in growing demand in the US and Europe markets, Shen said.
Asustek recorded consolidated revenues of NT$107.079 billion (US$3.6 billion), gross margin of 12.39%, net operating profit of NT$4.846 billion, net profit of NT$4.940 billion and net EPS of NT$6.65 for third-quarter 2013.
Of the third-quarter consolidated revenues, 57% came from notebooks and convertible notebooks, 20% from tablets, 13% from motherboards and graphics cards and 10% from others. Asia Pacific accounted for 43% of the revenues, Europe 30%, and North and South Americas 27%.
