MLCC prices declining as demand for PCs and high-end smartphones slow down

Prices of some models of MLCC have dropped over 5% on average recently, affected by slow sales of PC products and high-end smartphones, according to industry sources.

Semco, one of the top-two MLCC vendors in the global market, reportedly has joined the latest round of price competition, particularly cutting the prices of those models used in notebooks and desktops, the sources added.

The oversupply of MLCCs is expected to become more evident in the second half of 2013 due to a slowdown of economic expansion in China and continued weakness in demand in the end market, said the sources.

Taiwan-based MLCC makers such as Yageo and Walsin Technology are expected to see their production capacity utilization rates affected by rising industry volatility, commented the sources.
