Pegatron expects decreases in 1Q13 notebook, desktop, motherboard shipments

Pegatron Technology expects notebook shipments during the first quarter of 2013 to slip on quarter by 20-25% and desktop and motherboard shipments by 30-35%, company CEO Jason Cheng said at a March 5 investors conference.

Revenues from consumer electronics including tablets, LCD TVs and games consoles in the first quarter are expected to drop 0-5% sequentially while those from communications products including iPhone will decline 30-35%, Cheng indicated.

Pegatron brought in revenues of NT$238.831 billion (US$8.10 billion) from DMS (design and manufacturing services) in the fourth quarter of 2012, consisting of 39% for IT products, 33% for consumer electronics and 28% for communications products.

Pegatron shipped more than 10 million tablets in 2012 and aims to ship 20 million units in 2013. The company shipped 17 million notebooks in 2012 and expects slight growth in 2013 shipments.
