The production value of PCBs for telematics devices is expected to grow 6.2% on year in 2013, higher than the growth rates for boards used in information products and consumer electronics devices, according to an industry estimate.
CMK, Meiko, Viasystems, KCE and Taiwan-based Chin-Poon Industrial are currently the top-five suppliers of telematics PCBs, said the sources, adding that the five vendors together account for less than 50% of global market share.
Other Taiwan PCB makers including Unitech Printed Circuit Board, Global Brands Manufacture (GBM) and Tripod Technology have all ventured into the production of telematics boards, the sources noted.
Telematics boards currently account for 65%, 23%, 20% and 10% of total PCB production of Chin-Poon, GBM, Unitech and Tripod, respectively, revealed the sources.
GBM expects its production of telematics boards to increase substantially in 2013 buoyed by a relocation of production lines at its plant in Kunshan, China, according to the company. The Kunshan plant is rolling out notebook and telematics boards at present but will focus mainly on telematics PCBs in 2013.
