Far EasTone Telecommunications (FET) plans to launch about 30 smart TV applications at S Mart, the Taiwan-based telecom carrier's online app store, initially in April 2013 at the earliest.
Smart TV sale in the Taiwan market in 2013 is expected to double that in 2012 to reach 500,000 units, FET indicated. While most of the smart TVs will be based on Android, user interfaces may vary among vendors and this is giving FET business opportunities to develop applications in advance, the company said. FET said it has been talking with TV vendors about pre-installing S Mart their smart TVs.
S Mart has more than 4,000 applications currently and has attained more than 4.5 million cumulative downloads with 500,000 downloads a month recently, according to FET. There are 400,000-500,000 chargeable S Mart users each month, and FET expects revenues from S Mart in 2013 to increase by 40% from 2012.
